I just heard yesterday about a new craft beer event coming to Charleston in June. It's called Charleston Beer Garden 2012 and it will be a beer festival inspired by kick @$$ biergartens they have over in beer-lovin' Germany. This sounds like a great idea to me!!!
Here's the details. On June 23rd, from 1-8pm, Brittlebank Park in Downtown Charleston will be turned into "the largest pop-up beer garden Charleston has experienced." I am so there!!! There will be a "great line-up of craft beers, tasty treats from Charleston's food trucks, live music, beer school, and more..." What, What!!! Did someone say BEER SCHOOL? Not sure what they mean by "beer school," but I can't wait to hear the details on that one.
The Charleston Beer Garden 2012 website is up, but many details (especially all the breweries/beers that will be there) are still unknown. Breweries currently listed are: Magic Hat, Thomas Creek Brewery, Holy City Brewing, Sweetwater Brewing, Blue Moon, and Leinenkugel's. The band lineup seems pretty set with 4 different acts (Long Miles, Shovels & Rope, Southwood, and Megan Jean & the FKB). There will be various food vendors according to the site. The vendors listed are: The Magic Cheese Truck, Geechee Island Authentic Lowcountry Cuisine, Carolina Creole, Strada Cucina, Hello My Name is BBQ, Roti Rolls, PotKettle Black, Tokyo Crepes, and King of Pops. The Beer School class line-up is "coming soon."
Ticket prices are $25 in advance and $35 at the door for General Admission. This will get you a commemorative festival pint glass, pint glass koozie (good idea), and a sampling passport good for a 2 oz. sample from each of the 10 participating breweries. Wait 10 participating breweries??? So I guess there will only be 10 breweries. Seems low right? Back to tickets...there will be a VIP Ticket available for $50 and will include the same as the general admission ticket plus: 1) VIP Grove Access (Escape the crowd & refresh at the VIP Grove, complete with shade tents, misting fans, private bathrooms, and gratis water) 2) VIP Reserve Beer Tastings (Sample a few special reserve beers not available to general admission guests) 3) VIP Express Entrance (Bypass the line) 4) VIP Parking 5)VIP Swag Bag
Lastly, they also are selling $10 designated driver tickets, but these need to be purchased in advance!
Take note, that after you complete the "Sampling Passport (2 oz. pours from each of 10 participating breweries), you can purchase full sized pints from available breweries/beer vendors. Sweet....I was getting nervous.
I will post a follow up blog when more details are available.
Cheers!
